Passing Days

As the days pass by getting closer and closer to winter, mom's flowers are dying. Not just because of the cold atmosphere, but also because of how much sunlight it is receiving. There's been a lot of clouds lately and the days are darker. Clouds play such a big role!(Julisa) Not just for the sunset but also for the sun to light up the flowers. Coming from what I know flowers need a lot of sunlight and water to live. Not too much because too much can be bad.
Also the sun are part of why the flowers have the colors they have. According to Tony Guerra, "They especially like sunlight because it contains several colors of light that they make great us of." Also by taking AP Biology I learned that the leaves take the colors from the sun as well. The leaves are green due to the sun's violet-blue and red light which then transmits into green. I never knew that until last week. Who knew the leaves gets its color from the sun.

Compost

It gets pretty dark right around 5:30. This week i went down to check where my sunflowers were once at. I noticed that its not only the sunflowers that's dying but also some of my moms flowers. Probably because I suck at watering. But luckily some of my moms flowers are still alive! Some of them even looks healthier. I thought to my self.. why are some dying and some not? Then i thought because of composting.
Dead flowers can complete the circle of life by becoming compost to feed the soil, which will feed the next generation of flowers. Nothing lasts forever, but dead and dying flowers can live on by going through the composting process. My mom always gathers up the dead ones and compost it next to the other flowers. I once asked her why and she told me that it feeds up the plants.

here's a short animated clip of composting
